State Highway 36 is closed near Dalbeth Rd following the crash and motorists are advised to avoid the area and expect delays.

One person has been critically injured in a crash involving a truck near Rotorua.

Police said they were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Dalbeth and Hamurana Rds about 8.30am.

One of the vehicles was a truck.

State Highway 36 near Dalbeth Rd was closed but has since reopened.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said two people, one in a critical condition and one in a minor condition, were taken to Rotorua Hospital.

Two ambulances and one operations manager went to the scene of the crash.

A Fire Emergency NZ spokesman said three trucks went to the scene and crews worked to get a person out of one of the vehicles using rescue tools.
